Hip-po-gy-raf

An straw-eating creature in the Munchkin Country near Mount Munch. It is a huge beast with thick leathery skin and a long, elastic neck. Its head is broad and flat with large eyes and mouth, and small ears and nose, The Scarecrow gives him the straw from his body in return for allowing the party of Oz adventurers to use his long neck to cross a deep ditch on their way to Mount Munch. The Scarecrow is later restuffed with straw at the home of Professor Grunter Swyne.

First appears in: The Tin Woodman of Oz
