Use the Manage Portmapper option on the BACKUP.UNET main dialog to remove erroneous program registration numbers of programs that have terminated and not unregistered.
Caution: The Manage Portmapper option should be used only under the direction of your MTI Customer Service Representative.
- Choose Manage from the BACKUP.UNET main dialog to display the Manage menu.
- Choose Portmapper from the Manage menu. The Cleanup Port Mapper dialog is displayed (Figure 13 1).

The fields on the Cleanup Port Mapper dialog are described as follows:
- Program---The program number is a unique identifier that a service registers with the portmapper. The program number, in combination with the version number, allows any program across a network to get the local port number of the registered service. BACKUP.UNET has specific program numbers registered to allow the daemons to communicate with each other without conflicting with other services.
- Version--- The version number permits more than one version of a service to register with the portmapper.
- Protocol--- The protocol is the type of network service used by the registered program. BACKUP.UNET uses the tcp protocol for communication tasks.
- Port--- The port is a number that the portmapper passes to programs that request information about a specific service. By using the unique program/version number combination, a BACKUP.UNET BRP daemon on one host can get the local communication port number of the IOP daemon on another host.
- Server--- The server is the name of the registered service. Null is displayed if the name of the service is unavailable.
- To check the status of a program, select it from the list and click the Check button.
- If the selected program is available, an information dialog similar to Figure 13 2 is displayed:

- Click the OK button to dismiss the dialog.
- If the selected program number is not available, an information dialog similar to Figure 13 2 is displayed.
- Click the OK button to dismiss the dialog.
- To remove the unavailable program number, select it from the list and click the Remove button.
- To update the display, click the Update button.
