Use the Manage Daemons option on the BACKUP.UNET main dialog to manage the BACKUP.UNET daemons. Managing the daemons includes starting, stopping, and killing the BRP and IOP daemons on local or remote hosts.
The start, stop, or kill operation is executed on the daemon on the local host. The local host is the one selected in the Hosts list box of the BACKUP.UNET main dialog.
Before starting, stopping, or killing a daemon, first check its status.
- From the main dialog, select the host from the Hosts list box whose daemon status you want to check.
- Select Status Daemons. An information dialog is displayed showing the status of the daemons on the selected host (Figure 7 1).

- Click the OK button to dismiss the dialog and return to the main dialog.
You may need to start the BRP or IOP daemon if the daemon status information dialog shows the status as Stopped. Start BRP Stop BRP Kill BRP Start IOP Stop IOP Kill IOP
- From the main dialog, choose Manage Daemons to display the Manage Daemons menu (Figure 7 2).

- To start the BRP daemon, select Start BRP. To start the IOP daemon, select Start IOP.
You may need to stop the BRP or IOP daemons before performing operations such as changing the BACKUP.UNET catalog information or changing configuration parameters in the 'nbkMSGS' file. Stopping the BRP or IOP with this option ensures that the BACKUP.UNET database tables are cleaned up properly.
- From the main dialog, choose Manage Daemons to display the Manage Daemons menu.
- To stop the BRP daemon, select Stop BRP. To stop the IOP daemon, select Stop IOP.
- Stop BRP Allows all backup and restore processes on the invoking host to complete before stopping the BRP daemon.
- Stop IOP Allows all device related operations to complete before stopping the IOP daemon on the invoking host.
Killing the BRP or IOP with this option ensures that the BACKUP.UNET database tables are cleaned up properly.
- From the main dialog, choose Manage Daemons to display the Manage Daemons menu.
- To kill the BRP daemon, select Kill BRP. To kill the IOP daemon, select Kill IOP.
- Kill BRP Kills the BRP daemon on the local host, shutting down all backup, restore, and recycling activity immediately.
- Kill IOP Kills the IOP daemon on the local hosts, shutting down all I/O processes immediately.
