The BACKUP.UNET Motif GUI User's Guide is a guide to using BACKUP.UNET with the Motif graphical user interface (GUI). This guide is intended to be used by personnel responsible for the daily operation and administration of the network.
This guide contains the following chapters:
- Chapter 1, About BACKUP.UNET, describes BACKUP.UNET features and hardware and software requirements.
- Chapter 2, Using the Motif Graphical User Interface, provides an overview of the Motif GUI.
- Chapter 3, BACKUP.UNET Main Dialog, describes the main window used with BACKUP.UNET.
- Chapter 4, Backing Up Files, explains how to use a worklist and configure backup parameters. Gives step- by-step instructions for running full and incremental backups.
- Chapter 5, Listing and Restoring Files, explains how to display a list of your backed up files by date and time, or by using a named backup. Also explains how to restore files by date and time, or by using a named (archived) backup.
- Chapter 6, Managing the Network Configuration, explains how to modify the information in the Operators table, the Pools table, the Devices table, and the media type files. Some of the functions covered include adding operators and administrators, changing privileges, creating a media pool, modifying host information, and adding a device to a pool.
- Chapter 7, Managing the Daemons, explains how to start, stop, and kill the BRP and IOP daemons on a host.
- Chapter 8, Managing Administrative Files, explains how to edit the worklist, the recycle script, and other files.
- Chapter 9, Managing the Media, explains volume related functions, such as changing the blocking factor, labeling a BACKUP.UNET volume, computing volume storage capacity, and listing backed up files on a volume.
- Chapter 10, Managing Backup Information, explains how to recycle backup volumes, either manually or automatically. Also explains the process of moving backup information to online and offline storage.
- Chapter 11, Managing Requests, explains how to display operator requests and how to respond to them.
- Chapter 12, Viewing the Log File, explains how to display the BACKUP.UNET log file and how to change the level of reporting.
- Chapter 13, Using the Portmapper Option, explains how to remove erroneous program numbers of programs that have terminated but have not unregistered.
This book refers to specific sections in other BACKUP.UNET documentation that you might find useful as background or in support of this product. The sections are mentioned where their content is appropriate, and are as follows:
- Getting Started Guide. Provides an introduction to BACKUP.UNET, shows you how to set up a minimal configuration for your system, and provides fundamental procedures on backing up and restoring files, and updating the BACKUP.UNET software.
- Installation Guide. Provides information on preparing for installation, includes a checklist of information needed for installation, and details the steps of the installation process.
- Customization and Reference Guide. Tells you about the backup process in a network environment and discusses network conventions. - Command Reference Guide. Provides reference information describing each of the BACKUP.UNET commands the optional arguments that can be used with them. BACKUP.UNET jukebox commands are also included.
