About This Book
References and Related Documentation
The BACKUP.UNET Installation Guide was written to provide you with an introduction to BACKUP.UNET installation, to provide detailed installation procedures, to help you with identifying and mitigating problems, and to provide descriptions of common file modifications. It is intended as a detailed installation guide and a complement to other BACKUP.UNET documentation.
Note: This version of BACKUP.UNET has been re-packaged in RPM format.
Installing this RPM (from CDROM, for example), installs and does the
basic configuration that the nbkinstall script performs.
Some sections of this manual still refer to loading the product from tape
and running nbkinstall.
The nbkinstall script is still available if you install the "SRPM"
version of BACKUP.UNET (cbu) and use the accompanying "tar" file.
This manual is intended for anyone who has managerial, administrative, or operator responsibilities associated with backing up files and directories in a networked UNIX system environment.
The BACKUP.UNET Installation Guide contains the following chapters and appendixes:
- Chapter 1, Pre-Installation Instructions, provides an overview of the information you should have available and verifications you should make before beginning the installation procedures.
- Chapter 2, Installing BACKUP.UNET, details the procedure for installing the BACKUP.UNET software, and provides example answers and default values where appropriate.
- Appendix A, Using the Automated Installation Procedure, describes how to automate the installation process by specifying a list of hosts with the installation command. The automated installation procedure is useful in a network when installing BACKUP.UNET on multiple hosts of the same architecture.
- Appendix B, Installation Troubleshooting, helps you to identify and resolve problems common to the installation procedure by explaining the informational and error messages generated while installing BACKUP.UNET.
- Appendix C, Customizing the nbkMSGS File, provides common modifications applied to the nbkMSGS file and describes the circumstances under which you might need to make these changes.
