Early childhood

Born in Livani, Latvia, January 24, 1937. The son of Karlis Neiders, M.D. and Erika Lucija Neiders, D.D.S. A wimpy little mama's boy, whose constant tagging along with his sisters Mirdza and Velta was discouraged by them. Overwhelmed by first grade in the Bauska public school, was withdrawn from it, because even after three to four hours of homework daily I seemed to be falling behind and getting more distressed every day. In my early years, I was awkward as well, and talked with a very severe stutter.

Youth

I was determined to learn what this life is about. I was a prodigious, albeit slow reader.
