We offer html authoring, World Wide Web site design, construction, and maintenance, and scanning graphics into computer files for use on the Web.
The most important issues in designing a successful Web site are to know what you want to accomplish with the site, and what value you will provide to entice Web users to visit your site. In working with you to design your Web site, we will search the Internet to learn what similar businesses are doing on the Web so that we can prepare a superior Web site.
The next step is to arrange and present your content so that visitors to your site can quickly find what they are looking for. We believe that although fancy graphics will grab attention, the clear presentation of your text is the factor that will most determine whether or not you get the value you want from your site.
Another important factor in the success of a Web site is the amount of interactivity that it offers to visitors. Providing interactivity can be as simple as providing an email address, or a form that can be printed and faxed or mailed. Interactivity can be increased by providing an electronic form for getting visitor feedback or taking orders from visitors.
When you are satisfied with your Web site, we will upload it to your Internet Service Provider's server and check that everything works as planned.
A final factor in the success of a site is that it is maintained and updated regularly. We will work with you to see that your site stays current to induce visitors to return regularly.
We will work with you to see that your Web site is properly publicized. There are several dozen search engines and indexing services that are commonly used to find information on the Web. Unfortunately, with the rapid growth of the Web it may take any one search engine several months to find and index your site, so an organized strategy, including the proper use of key words, is important to get your site noticed.
Most search engines do not charge to index a site. Other directories provide free listings, but charge a fee for higher profile listings. You can choose how much you want to spend to market your site.
Although we believe that the proper use of text is the most important factor in the success of a site, no one can deny that appropriate graphics are important. We can convert your printed graphics into electronic form for use in your Web site.
We will soon offer Java to provide new functionality that allows Web sites to run small programs on the visitor's computer.
We are particularly interested in doing complex sites containing a large amount of information, such as book conversion projects. The background of Dr. Lewis as a scientist (see biography for more details) furnishes familiarity with a wide range of technical content. We are thus unusually well qualified to do Web site work for technology companies, whether the purpose of the site is to present the company to the Internet, or to provide an intranet for internal communication.
If you are reading this, you clearly have some proficiency in navigating the World Wide Web, which means you believe that the Internet is important enough that you have invested your time to become familiar with it.
You may, however, be skeptical about the bottom-line value of having a presence on the Web. Let us work together to start with something small and inexpensive, with a defined objective, so that you can evaluate the value of having a site.
If your site meets your expectations, we can expand it. On the other hand, if you wait until the value of a presence on the Web becomes obvious, it may take you longer to get started.
James B. Lewis Enterprises works to keep rates low by keeping overhead low.
Our basic rate for Web site design is $50 per hour. How many hours would be required depends upon the complexity of the site, how much of your material is already in electronic form, and whether you wish to learn to maintain and update the site, or wish us to maintain the site. Very simple sites might only require a few hours' work. A moderately complex business site might require a week's work, or more depending on complexity.
Typically a week's work would suffice to convert a company's current brochure to Web pages, to provide an order form for customers to print and fax or mail, a page profiling key staff members, and perhaps a few pages with more specialized, additional information.
Let us work with you to determine what you need for a web site to accomplish your objectives. Once we have an idea of what your job entails, we can give you a firm "Not to Exceed" price to design your site.
