Pickups
 

Series 1500 Poly/Mono Cello Pickup. The most advanced pickup made for the cello, the Series 1500 offers outstanding tone quality, dynamic range, and sustain of plucked tones. With separate sensors for each string, it responds equally well to bowed and plucked tones and does not require manual switching between arco and pizzicato modes. Comes with an active preamplifier with volume control, four tone controls including midrange parametric filter, effects loop, line level and balanced low impedance outputs.

Barbera Multi Transducer Cello Pickup. This superb all-maple transducer bridge produces a rich, full bodied, warm tone with a clear signal from each string. The piezo sensors, two for each string, are mounted on separate structures within a maple graft which is integrated into a maple case. The output is monophonic. Each bridge is precision machined and individually hand-voiced by the acclaimed pickup maker Richard Barbera. Available on Standard and Orion models, it comes with an active preamplifier with tone and volume controls.

Series 2000 Polyphonic Cello Pickup. The Series 2000 pickup has all the advantages of the Series 1500 plus MIDI compability. With two vibration sensors for each string, the Series 2000 responds equally well to bowed and plucked tones without using a mode selector switch. MIDI and conventional audio capabilities can be used simultaneously. The Series 2000 system can operate MIDI synthesizers, samplers, and computer music software, when used with Roland, Yamaha, ZETA and Axon pitch-to-MIDI converters and converter/synthesizers. It also is compatible with the Roland VG8 series polyphonic processor. Its special preamplifier includes includes volume and tone controls, mono and poly outputs, and two program switches.

Basic system requirements for a MIDI cello system are: 

  •     Solid body structure preferred to hollow or semi-hollow body 
  •     MIDI-compatible pickup with a separate outputs for each string 
  •     Pitch-to-MIDI converter/synthesizer
In a MIDI system, each string is processed by a separate channel of a pitch-to-MIDI converter, which converts the frequency and amplitude of each string sound into a serial encoded MIDI signal. The MIDI signal from each string controls a separate synthesizer or other MIDI device, which can produce the same or different sounds controlled by all the strings. 

A true polyphonic MIDI system minimizes tracking mistakes by the converter. Because it can process several tones simultaneously, it lets you play play multiple-stops and control different sounds (even different transpositions) from individual strings.  Also, a true polyphonic system eliminates disruption of MIDI tracking by tone overlaps which occur normally during string crossings. 

Wireless Systems

With a wireless system you can move freely without concern about cords. You can choose from several complete wireless systems using "true diversity" electronics which give fine audio performance and freedom from interference.  Please inquire about systems currently available.

Air Luggage Case

A very strong fitted case of laminated ABS and cellular Lexan or similar material, with aluminum tracking, heavy duty hardware, and fitted interior. 

Typical measurements (will vary slightly depending on the specific instrument): 

Case for five string Standard Cello: 6.75" x 7.25" x 41" (17 cm. x 18.5 cm. x 107 cm.)
Case for four string Air Travel Cello: 6.25" x 6.75" x 34" (16 cm. x 17 cm. x 86 cm.)
Tuning Options and Head Extensions

Dual Tuning Kit. Allows the 5 string cello to be used with either treble (E-A-D-G-C) or bass (A-D-G-C-F) tunings. Includes two nuts with fitted grooves, high E and low F strings. 

Low E Head Extension for F String. Lowers the range of F string by a semitone to E, the lowest tone of the guitar bass and upright bowed basses. For 5 and 6-string cellos. 

Low D Fingerable Head Extension for F String. Lowers the range of the F string by a minor third to D. Includes an extension of the fingerboard for the lowest string. The tones Eb, E, and F may be fingered. For 5 and 6-string cellos. 

Other Accessories

Extra Thumb Stops. The neck design of the Jensen Cello lets you play with the thumb behind the neck in all positions to the lower end of the fingerboard. A fourth position thumb stop is standard - three types are available. Additional behind-the-neck thumb stops may be ordered, to locate the hand in higher positions.

Jensen Performance Stand. Especially designed for the electric cello, and not a modified drum stand, this sturdy, lightweight stand provides excellent stability yet allows a comfortable freedom of motion, letting you rock the instrument laterally several degrees as you play. Height and tilt are adjustable. You can play standing up or seated on a stool. Also you can walk away from the instrument leaving it set up. Solidly built of stainless steel and aluminum, the Performance Stand does not wobble or rattle. It uses extra strength screw fittings and rubber covered leg ends. Easy to assemble, it collapses to fit in an Air Luggage Case. Comes with a removable bow hook, audio cord ties, and a cloth wrapper.

Busker Vest. This wearable cello holder provides a comfortable and stable support for the electric cello, giving you the freedom play while carrying the cello with you. Lightweight yet solidly built, it attaches in place of the end pin on the back of the cello, and is adjustable for different body shapes. Includes a wireless transmitter pocket which lets you add a wireless system at any time.

Poly Junction Box. The Poly Junction Box is a matrix patch bay and mixing device which expands the usefulness of your cello equipped with the Series 2000 system. Simple to use, it can direct any of six inputs to any of six outputs, separately or joined in any combination. Compatible with all current MIDI converters and polyphonic processors, the Junction Box lets you distribute string channels to work optimally with MIDI processors, without being limited to default or preset settings. This can be useful to match your instrument tunings to frequency-selective inputs on MIDI converter-synths, and it lets you use a greater variety of converters and open string tunings. The six separate outputs can connect with separate inputs of a sound mixing console or amplifier system, provide independent loops for split or stereo effects, or connect with your special processing devices in many different ways. Standard 1/4", 8-conductor DIN, and 13-conductor jacks are provided for the inputs and outputs. The Poly Junction Box can stand alone or fit in a half rack space.

Fingerboard Inlay. We make several types of inlays for pitch location, including marker dots made of natural shell, and hardwood marker bands. We also can provide an ornamental inlay based on your design. Inquire for details.
