| Following the success of the 1996-2002 calendars, Ben Marra Studios
is proud to present a new calendar for 2003, published by Avalanche
Publishing Company. POWWOW... Portraits of Native Americans
beautifully portrays 13 North American Indian images photographed
on location at various U.S. western powwows.

Kevin Smartlowit
Yakama Nation / Spokane Tribe
Greetings my Brothers and Sisters. My given name is Kevin Smartlowit.
My Indian Name is Kwel-Kwel-Lish and I am 9 years old. I come from
the Yakama Tribe. I have been dancing since I was 3 1/2 years old.
I joined the Pow-wow trail along side my father. I have been inspired
by my own relatives to keep on dancing. My relatives are teaching
me the ways of the Pow-wow trail; how I am to carry myself on and
off the dance floor. We dance for our families, pray to our Creator
- the one who gives us life.
My Father and Mother encourage me in everything I want to do. My
Uncles and Aunties praise me on my dancing and this makes me even
try harder at my dancing. I have to admit technology takes over
sometimes. I am glad that my Dad and Mom have chosen to put me on
the Pow-wow trail. They are giving me a way of life to follow. I
am told that it is a good road to follow; you can't go wrong if
you dance with a Prayer in your heart. I am very happy to meet new
people and travel to many different Pow-wows. May the Creator Bless
You on Your Journey.
Kwel-Kwel-Lish, Smartlowit
