  • Classical Recordings Collection Building, Label Pages, and Dealers  -John Gibbs’ (University of Washington) directory of web resources for librarians and other collection developers includes a section on used records and 78s.   • Used Classical CDs Meta-list -Leslie Troutman’s (University of Illinois) very useful web directory, enhanced by comments from members of the Music Library Association, focuses on the classical genre and the CD format.
  • Search services
  • A-1 Record Finders  -Stocks over 1,000,000 titles in LP and 45 formats, which they will search at no obligation to the requestor. Specialists in soundtracks and shows.

  • Amazon.com  -Fill out a form specifying desired titles and an end date; a number of out-of-print dealers will search.

  • CD Trackdown -Well-thought-out access points for out-of-print, overseas, and other hard to find CDs, mainly classical. A service of Rhinebeck Records, specialists in service to libraries; purchase orders accepted.

  • Harold Moores Records -Classical specialist with 70,000 vinyl LPs in excellent condition and a notably tenacious search service.

  • Yankee Music Search -Form based search service for sound recordings in all musical genres and all formats (“CDs, cassettes, LPs, 45s, 78s, even the occasional 8-track”). Specify two-week or open-ended search.

  • Berkshire Record Outlet -Cutouts (remainders) of CDs in all genres, especially classical.

  • CDChoice -Large database of classical and jazz CDs, with a genuinely useful search form and well-thought-out access points. Specialists in institutional ordering; purchase orders accepted.

  • Parnassus Records -Extensive monthly listings of out-of-print classical and jazz CDs; as well as vinyl LPs.

  • Loran Records -Specialists in vinyl LPs of all musical genres, with over 40,000 in stock. Well-organized classified lists include informative notes on condition and reasonable prices. Also offers a search service.

  • Recordfinders.com -175,000 item catalog is both browsable and searchable, and includes fixed-price as well as auction items. Can filter by format (45, 78, LP).
