Middle School Orientation
The principals, or their representatives, from Denny, Madison and South
Shore Middle Schools will be here on Wednesday, February 5th at 7:00 p.m., to
talk about their programs. Even if your child is not currently in 5th grade,
you may want to attend to see what the schools have to offer. It should be
a very worthwhile evening for those of you with 5th graders. You might want
to call a middle school directly to see about orientations, tours, etc.
Drop Everything And Read
February is D.E.A.R. month at Arbor Heights. We are trying to get as
many adults as possible into classes to read with the children during their
silent reading time. We want to model the practice of reading for enjoyment
so we are all bringing books to school this month. If you're free at any of
these times (9:30 - 9:45, 1:00 - 1:15, 1:15 - 1:30, 1:30 - 1:45) stop by and
read with a class. The office can direct you to a room that is silent
reading at these times.
The Science Math Technology Fair
Last week your child should have brought home a packet of information
about our upcoming Science/Math/Technology Fair. The fair is scheduled for
February 26th. As with any learning experience, we encourage parents to
offer guidance, but only minimal support, so that the students do as much of
their own work as possible. However, if any parent would like to set-up
their own project, we'll make space for you. Just call or drop us a note
We are looking for take-apart items for the Science Fair. Do you have
any broken electronic or mechanical gadgets such as VCR's, clocks, phones,
radios and such? Just drop them off in the office or send them to school
with your child. Thanks.
Weighted Student Formula
The Seattle School District is moving to a new way of staffing their
buildings beginning next year. I will be talking a little about the plan at
our P.T.A. meeting on February 12th.
Six community forums have been scheduled to explain the Weighted Student
Formula in detail. The forums are:
During the meeting, members of a team of teachers, principals and
central office staff who helped to craft the new budgeting proposal will
outline the proposal and answer questions.

The following students from Ms. Haas' 5th grade class performed with
