Self Manager Buttons
Has your child brought home a Self Manager Button? Arbor Heights students
that show they are self managers (able to handle themselves in a way that
is courteous to others, etc.) are being given Self Manager Buttons. Besides
entitling the students to treats on selected days, these buttons are worn
with pride and something the students are working to get (and keep). If
you see a child wearing a button, please recognize their achievements.
"Kids Can" is a service-learning project sponsored by the Seattle
Food Partnership. A number of our 4th and 5th grade classrooms were given
a presentation on Hunger (What is hunger, who is hungry and what causes
hunger). The following students explained the program to the rest of the
school, collected cans every morning and made a graph to show how many canned
food items were collected. Thank you to: Savy and Jeffrey from Room 25,
Tram and Isiah from Room 22 and Katie and Amanda dfrom Room 24. Four of
these students were able to go to the Seattle Center and take the 900 cans
of food that Arbor Heights collected to add to the donations from other
schools that participated in this program. Arbor Heights was the only West
Seattle school that participated. Thanks again to all of you who helped
bring food, the West Seattle Junction Food Bank will benefit from your generosity.
Thank you, also, to Debbie Kerns and Matthew Lawrence who helped get a truck
load of food to the Space Needle with our students!
Sapina Pele, Family Support Worker.
