"What
does the Fourth of July mean to you?"
(asked at the Pony
Express in Juanita on 07-01-99; published in the EJ on
07-04-99)
Andrea Anderson, Operations assistant, Kirkland
"I've always kind of looked at it as a day to celebrate the independence we take for granted. Usually, in my house, it's a family day. We all take the time to get together, which doesn't always happen on regular days."
Stephanie Rowe, Respiratory therapist, Kirkland
"The Fourth of July is a happy celebration and a patriotic day. I like to take advantage of it, see some fireworks. I think it's also a family day, and a day we can have a reason to all get together, and eat the things we shouldn't eat."
Dick Bratton, Construction manager, Bellevue
"To me, it means a time to relax and celebrate the family and the independence of the United States... I'll probably barbecue, play some golf, spend time with the family -- and hope the weather is a little bit better."
Reid Hadley, Sales, Kirkland
"It's a celebration of the sacrifices that were made by the Founding Fathers for our freedom. Sunday night, we're going to go to a video presentation put to music of the last 100 years shown at the Overlake Christian Church in Redmond."
Bonnie Johnson, Manager, Monroe
"Recognizing everything that our country has done for us -- except for making us pay taxes. (Laughs) But there's a lot of things our country's done for us. Plus celebrating the fact we live in a free area. Enjoy the Fourth of July, everyone!"
Bob Young, Retired, Kirkland
"A holiday. An American holiday. We plan to spend it with family."
