[The water cooler - What Eastsiders are talking about - By Ann Garretson]

"What's most on your mind these days?"
(asked at the Bothell Regional Library on 01-21-99; published in the EJ on 01-24-99)

[pt.]Dan Shaffer, Librarian, Seattle
[blue rule]
"Paying back student loans. I graduated from the University of Washington Library School in Spring '98, and this month I got the notices that I need to start paying back the student loans. And it's a chunk of money. Plus my car is breaking down."

[pt.]Jette Henry, Retired, Kenmore
[blue rule]
"This is going to sound kind of odd but -- when I'm going to die. This is prompted by concerns about financing, if you'll have enough money to live long, if you know you'll be able to pay for a nursing home... All you can do is save as much as you can, be reasonable, live reasonably. You try to see you don't become a burden to anybody."

[pt.]Charles Hoffmeister, Retired, Kirkland
[blue rule]
"That's real hard to answer. I guess it would be concerning senior citizen's problems, that sort of thing, the society in general... It's hard to put a priority on answers -- You know, I was in the field of office machines for 40 years and I'm just astounded by how fast information is moved around."

[pt.]Annette Bentley, Mom & student, Bothell
[blue rule]
"Baby. I'm due in March. It's healthy and everything. I don't know if it's a boy or a girl. It's my fourth child so it'll be really spoiled."

[pt.]Danika Bentley, 11th grader, Bothell
[blue rule]
"When I'm in school, I think about getting out of school, and when I'm out of school, I think about having fun."

[pt.]Ryan Hinckley, College student & cashier, Edmonds
[blue rule]
"Completing school. I'm second year in college and was in Engineering but changed to computing because I seem to have an aptitude for it... Right now I'm not in school -- I took a break to work and save money."
