"What's
your New Year's resolution?"
(asked at the Juanita
Starbucks on 12-22-98; published in the EJ on 12-27-98)
Malvina Ehrenberg, Sales & marketing, Seattle
"I never make New Year's resolutions because any time I ever tried, I never kept them. I don't see the point -- I don't need a calendar date to say 'I'm going to do something different.' "
Berley Lahmeyer, Student, Newcastle
"I do not keep them, but if I did, one would be to get closer to the God of my understanding. The typical resolutions of losing weight, making more money -- those never last for me. They're not long-lasting. I'd rather have a resolution I can work on for a lifetime."
Thea Cole, Rhythm & blues singer, Kirkland
"I don't have one -- I'm perfect as I am. And I lost 100 pounds in the past year, so I don't need to do that now... If I were to pick one, it would be to get a six-figure job!"
Sandy Anderson, Jazz singer, Bothell
"This is really something true and I've been pretty good about this in the past -- I want to be sure that people who are on my path and I love know that always... And I want to continue tap dancing."
Randy Rushing, Electronic technician, Kirkland
"To continue on a joyful, fulfilling path and to make the next year better than this one, and this one's been great. How? More growth -- self-growth, and only after that, financial. A lot of people really get into making resolutions but I guess I try and do it every day of the year."
Nathanael Hagan, Barista, Kirkland
"I really haven't thought about that. Probably that I want to have a better relationship with my family and friends. I haven't been in touch with my extended family and I'm going to see them on Christmas Eve. I haven't seen them in two years. It's going to be awkward, but it's going to be okay!"
