"What
are you sick of hearing about?"
(asked at the Bellevue
Regional Library on 10-15-98; published in the EJ on 10-18-98)
Norman Eftab, 10th grader, Westminster, CA
"The news about the President. The relationship with Monica, the two ladies -- who cares? He's a good president."
Mike Bogin, Realtor, Bellevue
"I don't want to say the very things I'm sick of hearing about. Instead, it would be very pleasing to hear more commentary about specific issues that have been tabled thanks to prioritization of the topics a lot of people are sick of. I'd like to know what's been put on the back burner. It's my hunch that we are terrifically underexposed to the economic relationships that are now impacting our daily lives. Things like risk distribution in lending circles, hedge funds, derivatives -- all the high-faluting things that have a direct impact on what we spend at the supermarket and on job security."
Julie Bruck, Teacher, Redmond
"Monica Lewinsky. It drives me crazy that they're spending so much time and media space on this topic. It's sordid and should be private and children shouldn't be exposed to it. As if any of this has anything to do with the President's ability to run the country."
Cisco Collins, Sales representative, Bellevue
"Monica Lewinsky. And what you don't hear about is that the right-wing conservatives are backing her with a conspiracy. I believe that's 100% of what is going on. It's political. With Ken Starr, Paula Jones, Gennifer Flowers, and the influence of Linda Tripp and the tapes -- they're trying to catch the President in a sex lie and call it perjury and obstruction of justice."
Debi Totten, Science teacher, North Bend
"The Clinton scandal. I just want it to be over. I'm one of those people who doesn't think he should be impeached."
Fatma Atesoglu, Housewife, Bellevue
"Monica Lewinsky. Too much. There are many things, many problems to solve in the world -- Medicare must be solved and also, we must pay attention to education."
