"What
do you think of the Starr Report?"
(asked at the Juanita
Starbucks on 09-17-98; published in the EJ on 09-20-98)
Elizabeth Brown, Salesperson, Kirkland
"I think it's very one-sided to favor the Republican side as opposed to Clinton. They're not even giving him a chance. I feel he deserves the chance to explain himself, to prove what's gone on. And it has nothing to do with running the country."
Melissa Hasbrouk, Stay-at-home mom, Kirkland
"It's pretty interesting basically. The whole issue. But I think they've gone too far. The whole thing with Clinton and Monica should be kept between them -- him, his wife, and her... I've read bits and pieces in the Seattle Times. Starr's gone overboard. And some parts aren't even true."
John Wells, Retired teacher, Bothell
"The problem is, I guess it had to be done. There are too many variables, too many unknowns. I think things need at least to be cleared up. I think it's probably also partially politically motivated. I hope it's kept within the bounds of its value."
Charlene Weber, Part-time merchandiser, Everett
"Money-wise, I don't think it should have to be that expensive. Why does it have to be that expensive? ... I didn't vote for Clinton because of his track record -- Gennifer Flowers, Paula Jones -- and normally I vote Democrat."
Don Cunningham, Tugboat engineer, Kirkland
"I'm a little upset over it. I just don't feel the so-called Whitewater investigation gives Starr the right to delve into everything. But he would've kept hunting till he found something. I don't necessarily agree with what Clinton did, but I don't think that anybody could stand up to open their whole life to investigation... I think a lot of it was set up. I think history will prove someone -- I'm not saying who -- set Clinton up."
Carolyn Bell, Registered nurse, Kirkland
"Well, I think it's rather disgusting. The whole situation. I think it's embarrassing as a nation. I guess I would've rather not known about it. But I suppose everything has a purpose, so hopefully this situation will be useful, set an example for the next president. I feel sorry for Mr. Clinton's daughter -- it would be really hard."
