"What
advice would you give Hillary Clinton?"
(asked at King
County's Juanita Beach Park on 08-19-98; published in the EJ on
08-23-98)
Barbara Ledger, Retired, Seattle
"I think she's doing the right thing -- taking care of herself, taking care of Chelsea. I don't think people are surmising a whole lot about "Yes, she knew" or "No, she didn't" -- I don't think we know and I don't think we should presume to know. I think they've done such a good job keeping Chelsea's private life separate. That's excellent."
Jerry Ainsworth, Retired engineer, Seattle
"I'm at a loss -- I'm totally at a loss. I suspect she's made a bargain with power and I suspect she'll stick with him. I hope she does. I think there's been too much turmoil over his randy habits that doesn't apply to his running the country."
Eric Palacpac, College student, Bothell
"If I was her, I'd just stick by Bill Clinton -- Bill Clinton's a good president and I wouldn't even worry about this. I think the media's just blowing it way out of proportion -- the Monica Lewinsky case, the Ken Starr investigation."
Katie King, Lifeguard, Woodinville
"My parents went through a separation and I know how difficult it can be. Personally, I think marriage is a commitment and no matter what happens, it's a lifetime commitment. And when you made those vows, you committed for life."
Debbie Knapp, Housewife & mother, Edmonds
"To work on Clinton to ban partial-birth abortion. Maybe this would be a good time to get him to change his stance -- he's probably scrambling for forgiveness... If I had a chance to talk to her, I'd be talking to one of our country's leaders. She's not interested in my opinion about her marriage."
Shannon Thompson, Computer technologist, Kent
"Don't perjure herself and make sure you don't deal in obstruction of justice. I think that both of those are at the heart of the issue."
