[The water cooler - What Eastsiders are talking about - By Ann Garretson]

"If you could pick any job to do, what would it be?"
(asked at Crossroads Shopping Center on 01-02-97; published in the EJ on 01-05-97)

[pt.] Craig Brown, Newsstand clerk, Bellevue

"I'd probably either paint or blow glass. I'm still in high school, so later, hopefully... Now, I've done mural work for people and I show as much stuff as I can to get a name for myself and open more doors."

[pt.] Shannon Cohen, Sports reporter, Shoreline

"The job I do -- I'm a television sports reporter. I'm not in the office all day, and I just love sports and I'm out and about every day. I've known what I wanted to do since the seventh grade... My best bit of advice would be to do what you love, and not for the money or for anyone else because you have to do it anyway."

[pt.] Dave Cohen, Teacher/coach, Shoreline

"What I do -- a teacher and a high school coach. I love helping people and that's an easy way to do it. It's never boring, it's different, and you meet some great people. I like the combination of teaching and coaching because you deal with the kids in different ways... If there's a day I can't leave whistling, then it's not a good day. And so far I've left whistling every day."

[pt.] Jennifer Kniseley, Special Ed teacher, Renton

"I'm already a teacher and that's pretty incredible because there's something new and different every day. And I'm a coach and I enjoy that. But if I could do anything -- I suppose it would be to work in the outdoors, to lead groups of kids in the outdoors. I think the experience of being in the outdoors brings out the playfulness in kids. And they can learn a lot -- it's a natural place to learn."

[pt.] Scott Harris, Product designer, Woodinville

"Well, I own my own company, so I guess I picked it. My brother and I started it about 16 years ago. We develop educational software for children. We get to create products that students use to help them with their skills. It's very satisfying to come up with an idea, put it in practice, and see students use it."

[pt.] Joann Caldwell, Dishwasher, Bellevue

"Probably something in child care. Or being a clown. Or a model. Maybe be in a play. Something different... When you get tired of what you do, keep on doing it. And dream."
