"What advice would you give new mom Madonna?"
(asked at the Kirkland Library on 10-18-96; published in the JA on 10-20-96)
John Slatick, Environmental technician, Kirkland
"Don't expect any sleep for months... And to the father -- be around."
Julie Nelson, Bookkeeper, Kirkland
"I'm not sure because I'm not a mom, myself. I've heard a few comments about her new baby but I haven't really followed it because I don't care much for Madonna. I think there's been too much attention brought to bear on her having a baby. I mean, everybody has a baby. And it makes me kind of sick to think that people are sending gifts to her when so many other moms could use them."
Jim Swanson, Sales representative, Redmond
"I heard she'd slipped out some side door to avoid the media... She should be proud of her baby. Why be ashamed and hide it from the media? Show it off -- be proud of it! They're precious!"
Eva Silver, Psychoanalyst, Kirkland
"Don't expect it to be easy, and be prepared to work hard and give up a lot and get a lot of pleasure, too. I think it's wonderful that she'll have someone to love for the rest of her life."
Kim Smith, Dentist, Issaquah
"No tattoos till after the baby's weaned -- for the baby, at least! If I were her, I'd probably try to keep the child out of the limelight as much as possible. I think the child won't necessarily choose a celebrity life and it's nice that they have privacy until which point they choose that."
Barbara Semler, Mother, Kirkland
"As a mother of three, definitely having patience is #1. And be happy, and have fun! And get sleep when the baby sleeps! For her -- the hoopla would be tough. She'd need patience for that, too. And congratulations to her!"
