A Bit About
Today's
Issue
Welcome to Web edition of the Bellevue, WA-based
Journal American newspaper's "Today's Issue" op-ed
column! This is a brief FAQ (of sorts) about this site
and it includes info about how, if you're an Eastsider,
you can reply to TI, and read what you say in the JA!
"What is 'Today's Issue'?"
Dedicated to exploring issues you face on a daily
basis, "Today's Issue" (TI) is an opinion-editorial page column
appearing in the 40,000-circulation Sunday edition of the
Journal American (JA), the Eastside's daily
newspaper. TI is by-lined by Ann Garretson who, accompanied by a
staff photographer, startles at least six innocent people around
the Eastside every week when she asks them the TI 'question of the
week'. Past Qs include:
- "What's the key to reforming the welfare system?"
- "Will Windows 95 make a difference in your life?"
- "Are you working harder than a year ago to make ends meet?"
Ann has free-lanced TI since May, 1994, and she adapted TI for
the Web in Sept., 1995. (The latter means that she's solely
responsible for this site's content -- and any/all tpyos:)
"When does TI appear online?"
New TI
columns appear every Sunday in two cyberplaces: right here, via
Ann's Netscape-optimized site; and on Seattle's "downtown
Business Users Group" (dBUG) FirstClass® BBS, the "ExChange",
where she's moderated a column-based conference since June, 1994.
"Are potential questions
encouraged?"
We're
always open to feedback and suggestions! FYI, if you're thinking
of possible Qs, please note that TI focuses on local goings-on as
much as possible so international issues are a tad too broad
(sorry). Besides, people want to know about what's going on in
their own communities. Here's a tip if you want to suggest a Q:
ask your family members, friends and co-workers what they'd like
to see and read about. And what about you, too? Are you curious
about what others think about a particular issue or topic? So are
we. So suggest away!
"How do I comment on a
question?"
JA
Editorial Page Editor Craig Groshart oversees TI and is
available via e-mail. If you're an Eastsider, write and say hello!

how (from the paper's "Letters Welcome" info, and there's more
e-mail info on each TI page):
